Fundraising The idea of transforming the Historic Cobalt Mining Camp into a world class tourism destination is not a new one. After twenty years in the conceptual stages and with the help of FedNor and NOHFC, the Historic Cobalt Mining Project has moved out of the conceptual stages and started to move into the actual stages of development.
The Historic Cobalt Mining Camp is beginning to reach out to the public and corporate sponsors with the goal of partnering to take the site to the next level of development for the next generation of visitors from across Canada and around the world. HCMC is very keen to partner with affiliates and foundations whose roots are in Cobalt and hold a strong affinity with Mining Companies, Pioneer Banking and Organized Labour. We believe that with a united community/private sponsorship program that the HCMC heritage site can stand as a unique symbol of industry and community working together in Canada.
Be part of creating a Canadian Historic Mining Legacy. Legacy Giving "In this world nothing can be said to be more certain, except death and taxes." - Benjamin Franklin
The Historic Cobalt Corporation is a Canadian Registered Charitable Corporation that can receive charitable donations and issue tax receipts.
Create a legacy for yourself or a loved one by giving a gift to the Historic Cobalt Corporation. Gifts can be given in a variety of forms; a cash gift, property, life insurance and stock options. This can be done through a bequest in a will.
Many Canadians die each year without leaving a will and no plans in place to deal with the estate or taxes. Lawyers and Accountants and Financial Planners are a good source of professional advice when planning your estate. A planned charitable gift can allow you to create a legacy to support your community and at the time take advantage of the tax benefits of a planned estate.
A donor memorial wall will be established in the Welcome Centre in the Designated, Historic Cobalt Mining District. Naming opportunities exist for large gifts.

Donation Dear friend of Cobalt,
The Historic Cobalt Mining Camp Project is an important, community-based initiative to revitalize the community and regional economy through development of Cobalt's mining heritage tourism resources. We are currently in Phase 1 of a multiphase project. Historic Cobalt will be enjoyed by thousands of Canadians and other visitors from around the world who will have the opportunity to learn about the Cobalt Silver Boom and its importance as the genesis of the hard rock mining industry in Canada and so much more.
For 2005, 2.3 million was raised primarily from public funding partners including Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, FedNor, and Tem Fund. As you can imagine, undertaking this Historic Cobalt project is very costly. In order to access the $2 million dollars for the project, the Town of Cobalt and the Township of Coleman have each had to contribute $50,000 from our local rate payers. As part of our financial contribution to the project, we also made a commitment to our funding partners that we would assume private fundraising efforts to generate an additional $25,000 towards the project costs. It is for this reason that we are now reaching out to you and your organization to seek a cash contribution to assist us with our project financing.
Through letters similar to this one, we are asking all of the major service providers, suppliers and friends of Cobalt to consider making a charitable cash donation to our project. We are not specifying an amount; we are simply requesting that you consider donating an amount that you feel is appropriate to assist this important project. We have recently received our first donation in this regard; a cheque for $500.
In response, you will promptly receive a charitable receipt from the Town of Cobalt. We will be publicly recognizing all financial contributions in the Temiskaming Speaker and the Cobalt Chronicle. In addition, funds over $500 will be acknowledged on a permanent plaque commemorating the names of the dedicated service providers and supporters who contributed financially to this important project. This plaque will be displayed at the new Train Station Welcome Centre in the historic Cobalt train station.
We are counting on you to help the town of Cobalt to progress with its multi phase project. Please feel free to contact our Project staff at your convenience to obtain further information at 705-679-2199.
Should a cash donation be possible for you, your much appreciated financial contribution to the project can be made in the form of a cheque payable to the Town of Cobalt with a note specifying that it is a "HCMC donation". It can be mailed to the Town of Cobalt, 18 Silver Street, P.O. Box 70, Cobalt, Ontario P0J 1C0.
On behalf of the Town of Cobalt, the Township of Coleman and the Steering Committee, we would like to extend our personal and heartfelt thanks for considering making a charitable cash donation to our important project. We look forward to seeing you at the 2006 Centennial celebrations.

Private donations are needed to leverage the next levels of development.
We know that Cobalt holds a special place in the history of the development of mining in Canada and greatly influenced the banking and financial sectors of the country as well. Organized labour played a vital role with the miners in the early days of Cobalt to bring about new standards of safety and workers compensation. There is an important opportunity to pay tribute to the ordinary men and women who helped build this incredible silver town.
